FAMILY Dokic has been reunited again! Recently first
racquet of Serbia and Montenegro, former world no. 4 on
Sunday returned home, to her parents and brother Sava.
Reporter of "Sport" caught them in warm and sunny home
with smiles on their faces, happy... They are together
again, like before...
In place nearby the Fruska Gora Mountain, on the Dokic's
ranch, exclusively for "Sport" Jelena told her story.
She didn't want to talk about what had happened in her
life and career for past two years. She had left it
behind herself and for herself. She had turned new page
in her life and only looks towards future.
- I consider this to be a good decision. I've come back
home, but that is my private matter. And, as for tennis,
I think it will help me a lot. Private life must be
taken care of in order to play good game and accomplish
results. From now on I'll working with my dad, we had
already made a plan - says blond beauty.
First-class results, to remind, Jelena achieved in time
when her father had coached her. Aged 15 she was world
junior no. 1. One year later she wrote the history of
Wimbledon, when in tournament’s main draw she had
defeated until then the untouchable leader of world
tennis Swiss Martina Hingis.
Then came Jelena's golden series of success on the most
prestigious WTA tournaments: she had won five titles,
from which three were the 'million': Tokyo, Rome,
Moscow. On September 2002, she became world no. 4, just
behind America's three: the Williams sisters and
Capriati. She is now world no. 105 (last week world no.
44) and she's 21. She has a lot of time to come back on
the golden tracks, and it is known fact that mature
years of the women's tennis come not before 25.
- I'm staring from the beginning again. I have to take
care of my medical problems with my teeth and tonsils
first, and then I'll start working. There are 2-3 months
until my first tournaments, meaning I'll have enough
time to prepare. I haven't been training a lot and I am
not near the game I use to play. For starters, I must
regain my condition. Most probably I'll be preparing in
Belgrade - Jelena explains.
Damir's heart is also full of happiness.
- We had seen it from every angle, what had happened,
happened. She had decided to be her family again. Jelena
had shown she was a great player, the she was caught by
a crisis. Time came to set that right I to return on the
place where she had been - says Damir Dokic.
Ever since she had left Australia in 2001 she haven't
been playing on season's first Grand Slam, played in the
very same country.
- I will not go to Australia next year as well. Plan is
to return to Top 15, and I will be playing doubles more
- Jelena concluded.
