Because of the withdrawl of Janette
Husarova, Jelena will now face not the
slovakian but serbias no2: Jelena Jankovic!
Certainly a match a lot of people have been waiting for.
Jelena vs. Jelena. The serbian
no1 vs. the serbian no2. Serbias superstar vs. Serbias
hope for the future!
But both Jelenas could not be much more different off
court. Whilst one (Dokic)
learned tennis from her father the other one (Jankovic)
went to the famous Bollitieri
Tennis Academy to get prepared for the WTA.
Dokic has blonde hair, has always had, and probably ever
will. Jankovic changes her
hair colour like other girls change their clothes.
They differences become less if it comes to the on-court
comparison. Both
Jelenas have a strong serve, are offensive players, dont
fear the way to the
net and attack her opponents whenever they have the
chance to.
The year 2003 has started excellent for Jankovic. She
won three matches to
qualify for the main draw of the Australian Open and
even won her opening
match there, but unfortunately she did not have another
result like that. After early
losses at Paris, Scottsdale and Indian Wells she could
at least qualify for Key
Biscane but lost the first round there. And as she had
no decent results in 7 out of
her next 8 tournaments she played at the WTA-tour
she went back to challenger tournaments where she
did slightly better.
One Semi-final and two-quarter finals are not bad at
three 50K tournaments, but not
really outstanding either. Further she tried her luck at
the US-Open but lost the last
qualifying round.
The last tournament she entered was another 50K in Italy
where she had a disappointing
loss in round 2.
After all, i must admit that both Jelenas are not
playing her best tennis at the
moment, but who cares? Its the serbian no1 vs. the
serbian no2! Its Serbias
superstar vs. the Serbian hope for the future. Its the
blond one vs. the one who cant
decide which colour her hair looks best.
Its Jelena vs. Jelena.
And everyone is looking forward for that match :-)
