1st 2002: Great win for Jelena in the third round today as she defeated

2nd 2002: Jelena reached her first career French Open quarterfinal today
when she eliminated Katerina rebotnik 7-6, 6-2.. After struggling to take
any advantage in the first set, Jelena finally was able to win the tie-break
7-3 and move to quarters after an easy second set.. Next up for Jelena is
either Jennifer Capriati or Patty Schnyder..

3rd 2002: Jelena will finally face #1 seed and player in the world
Jennifer Capriati in the quarterfinals of the French Open, best of luck!

in the third set today.. a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 loss against the #1 player in the
world..

8th 2002: In a survey done by French issue of "Tennis Magazin", Jelena
ranked as the third sexiest player (Kournikova was way ahead of both Hingis
and Jelena)..

Nicolas Meunier, the outstanding photograph who also provided us photos from

DFS classic played in Birmingham, UK. Read it

By the way, Jelena improved to #8 in the singles rankings this week thanks
to her quarterfinal in Paris. However, she lost 13 places in doubles (to
#25) due to her decision not to play...

While Glyn predicted a title for Jelena, Todd thinks she will manage to make
semis..! Oh and by the way, Jelena decided to not enter doubles once again
this week..

12th 2002: Jelena had some difficulties but finally got through with a
7-6, 6-4 win over world #180 Lucie Ahl..!! She was able to come back from
3-5 in the first set! Next up for Jelena will be either Elena Likhovtseva or
Cara Black!

13th 2002: Solid win for Jelena today in the third round in Birmingham
as she advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Russia's Elena Likhovtseva.. next
up for her will be Eleni Daniilidou!

14th 2002: Jelena reached the semifinals of the DFS classic today with a
6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Eleni Daniilidou who was not an easy opponent...
Daniilidou took an early lead in the first set and then a 5-1 lead in the
second set (lead that she almost lost!) and the third set was thightly
fought but Jelena prevailed in the end! Next up will be #8 seed Lisa Raymond

15th 2002: Jelena is playing her semifinal match today against American

The match is the second one scheduled on centre court (first one starts at
1PM local time)

15th 2002: Wow, Jelena reached the DFS classic final today with a 6-1,
7-5 in her semifinal matchup with American Lisa Raymond! Next up will be
Russian Anastasia Myskina!
They have played twice this year each winning one part of the battle...
Myskina won in their last encounter in Rome when Jelena trying to defend her
Italian Open title. By the way, here is a photo of Jelena and Anastasia
taken in Berlin..

16th 2002: As expected, Jelena will play the final today against
Anastasia Myskina! Oh and next week Jelena will be playing in Eastbourne!
She will be the #1 seed and after a first round bye will face Daja Bedanova
or a qualifier... more details soon!

16th 2002: Congratulations! Jelena took the DFS classic title today with
a 6-2, 6-3 win over Russia's Anastasia Myskina!:) Now, she will probably
leave today towards Eastbourne where she is set to play next week as the #1
seed!

17th 2002: The draw for the tournament in Eastbourne is out, you can see
it here! Jelena
is the #1 seed.. and by the way, no it's not an error, Martina Navratilova
is playing singles.. she faces Tatiana Panova in the first round!

her very active week in Birmingham! Anyway, Wimbledon announced their

19th 2002: A shock defeat for Jelena today in Eastbourne as she
eliminated by Daja Bedanova 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 in the second round...

would think that the No. 1 seed would play on center court, but there's some
ridiculous match out there instead" That is the controversial comment
Jelena made after her match about the tournament's decision to make her play
on court #1 while Hantuchova vs Navratilova was being played on centre
court! Very surprising! Anyway, I also added the rest of Nicolas Meunier's
photos from the 2002 French Open, you can see them in the
gallery!
