October 2003 Archives October 31st 2003: Well happy birthday to Borna!:) Jelena's new coach has been very dedicated to getting Jelena back on track and his work was surely an important part of Jelena's solid end-of-season run! Happy birthday! You can add your own wishes on our board here:) October 29th 2003: Today I updated the top 10 photos of Jelena as voted by all of you, see them here and vote for the next update! October 27th 2003: Well with Jelena's season now over, we would like to congratulate her. Things were not easy this year but the way that Jelena was able to end it with great wins in the last few weeks gave all of us great hope of seeing her fulfill her next objective; a return to the top 10. We hope you can rest, train hard and come back in a better shape than ever in 2004! October 24th 2003: Jelena was defeated in her quarterfinal match today by Ai Sugiyama, a 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 loss:( October 24th 2003: With only hours to go before Jelena's quarterfinal, you can read Gerhard's match review here and a preview by Conchita Slice here! October 23rd 2003: Nice win today by Jelena as she needed 3 sets but pulled out a good 3rd set in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Petra Mandula! She will now be up the #2 seed and world #11, Ai Sugiyama. They have only met twice, each winning on one occasion (last meeting was won by Ai in Antwerp this year). October 22nd 2003: You can see the match report by Gerhard here for more info on what happened, he will also be there tomorrow, hopefully to witness another Jelena win! October 21st 2003: Nice win Jelena! Today, she dismissed Daniela Hantuchova 6-4, 6-1 in the first round in Linz! Next up will be Petra Mandula or Barbara Schett... Also, you can see 10 new photos of Jelena in gallery #111. October 20th 2003: Jelena will be playing the evening match in Linz tomorrow against Daniela Hantuchova, let's hope things go well! October 19th 2003: Jelena lost the singles final in Zurich today against Justine Henin-Hardenne 6-0, 6-4! Congratulations to Jelena on a great week though!!! She now heads to Linz where she will face #5 seed Daniela Hantuchova in the first round, see the draw here. Also, you can read the interview Jelena gave following her win over Kim Clijsters here. Amonth other things here are some comments from Jelena following the loss: " I think it was one match too many for me this week. I've had a great time and it's shown me that the work I've put in for the last couple of months has been paying off. My next tournament is Linz, I am not sure after that, but there is the possibility of me starting next year in Australia. I want to do well in those early tournaments and hopefully be back in the Top 10 by March." October 18th 2003: Jelena posted a very big win today over Kim Clijsters in the Zurich semifinals, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4! She will now face Justine Henin-Hardenne in tomorrow's final, you can read a match review here. October 17th 2003: Nice win by Jelena in Zurich as she defeated crowd favourite Patty Schnyder 6-0, 6-3, next up is #1 in the world Kim Clijsters, read about Jelena's win here. October 16th 2003: Jelena and Katerina played solid tennis but lost 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 against Suarez and Ruano-Pascual today. On another note, Jelena will face Patty Schnyder tomorrow in the Zurich quarterfinals! A win would put her back in the top 20! Go Jela!! October 15th 2003: Big win for Jelena today as she defeated Alexandra Stevenson to advance to the third round, she will now face Patty Schnyder or Amelie Mauresmo. Also, you can read Jelena's comments following her win over Chanda Rubin here. Tomorrow, Jelena and Katerina Srebotnik will play in doubles against Ruano-Pascual and Suarez... October 14th 2003: Jelena will face Alexandra Stevenson tomorrow, as she is scheduled to play the second match on centre court. She defeated Chanda Rubin after a great fight 6-1, 5-7 and 6-4. Jelena will now face Alexandra Stevenson! October 8th 2003: Read about Jelena's singles match in Gerhard's report here. October 6th 2003: Jelena and Maja Matevzic lost 7-5, 6-1 against Schnyder and Schett in doubles... October 5th 2003: The draw for the Filderstadt tournament is out, Jelena will face Magdalena Maleeva in her first match while she plays doubles with Maja Matevzic. You can see the full draw here.
