Jelena on to final!
By Pierre Cantin
Date: 20/10/2001
A 6-2, 6-2 win today against Nathalie Tauziat gave Jelena a
chance to move to the final of the Swisscom Challenge, where
she will have a much tougher match.
Not much of a
surprise to me to see Jelena win this easily against Nathalie
Tauziat, a player that like Chanda Rubin, just can't do much
against Jelena when she is on and we certainly can't find much
that Jelena did not do well since the US Open as she has been
nearly unbeatable...
This win will also be enough for Jelena to move to #9 in the
rankings on Monday and move one step closer of being in the
top 8 which would guarantee her to not face a Williams or
Davenport before the quarterfinals in tournaments like the
Australian Open.
But for now, Jelena can concentrate on her match tomorrow, the
final of the Swisscom Challenge where she will face Lindsay
Davenport. Not only is Davenport a very good player but it's
also a great way for Jelena to test her progress. They have
played 3 times yet and Jelena lost all 3:
Jelena can win this match but it will be very tough,
especially inside as Lindsey's power is even greater and right
now she might be the best player on carpet. But let's not
forget that Jelena has been playing awesome and winning her
fourth title of the year as well as advancing to #8 is well
within reach!
Go Jelena!
