Great draw in
Zurich
By Pierre Cantin
Date: 13/10/2001
The draw for the tournament in Zurich was released and Jelena
has to be thrilled as she has the best draw out of any seed in
my opinion.
Jelena will be the
#4 seed at the Swisscom Challenge. After a first round bye,
Jelena will probably play against Chanda Rubin who should have
no problems against Montolio. Of course Chanda Rubin is a very
good player but she has the perfect style of play for Jelena
to play against so I don't expect any problems. The third
round would probably be against Anke Huber, nothing easy but
considering the strenght of the tournament it is fortunate.
In the semis, Jelena would maybe face Hingis but that is far
from sure as Hingis just lost because of an injury in
Filderstadt and could very well not play in Zurich. Other
semis possibile opponents could be Tauziat, Maleeva or
Tulyaganova.. So let's hope Jelena can reach the final where
she would probably face Davenport or Capriati..
(1) Martina Hingis (SWI) vs BYE
Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario (ESP) vs Q
WC-Lina Krasnoroutskaya (RUS) vs Iroda Tulyaganova (UZB)
Magdalena Maleeva (BUL) vs Nathalie Tauziat (FRA)
(4) Jelena Dokic (AUS) vs BYE
