Jelenas next opponent at
Wimbledon is Kveta Hrdlickova from the Czech Republik.
The rather small girl (1.65 meters / 5`5``) is currently the no96 of the
world which makes her to the no2 of her country. Asked for
her favourite surface she answeres carpet & hard-court, but
if someone would asked her for her most hated surface it
would definaltely be grass!
Though she is already 26 years old (27 in Juli) she only started her
professional career 4 years ago, and only this year she
managed to win her first match on grass-court ever! That
memorable match was taken last week at Hertogenbosch where
she beat Elise Tamaela 6-2 and 6-2. The next day Justine
Henin showed her how to play on grass properly and beat her
in straight sets. Maybe she learned of those two matches,
because at round one of
Wimbledon she won again! Stephanie Foretz was the name of
her opponent, and Kveta won 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3.
Beside that, the girl from Bilovec was either not very busy or not very
successful in 2002. The only result at a main draw of wta
tournament i found was her first round loss to Tina Pisnik
at Rolland Garross. In 2001 she did slightely better,
reaching the quarters of Luxembourg and Bratislava, but
after reaching the third rounds of two grand slams and round
two at one in
2000, she must have been rather dissapointed about the last
two years.
Kveta, who started playing tennis at the age of six has won one
tournament. That was back in 1998 and took place at the
Cardiff, but her biggest success took place at the French
Open 2000. There she beat at round 2 the hottest, best
looking and most promising talent of the WTA in straight
sets! In July 2001 Jelena took revenge and beat her at Sopot
6-3 and 6-2.
The right-handed baseliner lives with her shepherd-dog Jack in Berlin, is
coached by her boyfriend Thorsten Peschke and managed by his
father Aribert "Harry" Peschke. She used to have quite a
good web-site, www.kveta.de, which has become her official,
but as many official web-sites, the site is made without
heart and passion. The tennis stats (archiv) and her
biografie are not updated for about a year, and the picture
gallerie as as well the link to sponsors are empty.... The
only thing which is giving out informations to fans is the
news section, but firstly thats only in German (????) and
secondly that seems rather to be a portal for her future
father-in-law to report official statements and complain
about broken links to tournaments.... Like at the
tennis-court the Hrdlickova team could do a better job
there, but I dont see a way for her to compare with Jelena.
Not at the internet, and not on court.
