GRETA ARN PREVIEW
Germanys no 5, Greta Arn, was
one of the big loosers at the draw for the
US-Open 2002, as she faces the current no 4 of the world in
the first round.
The 23 year old player claims -like Jelena- Steffi Graf as
her most admired player, claims -like Jelena- hard court as
her favourite surface and improved her wta-ranking -like
Jelena- every single year since she is
listed. Thats the common things i found between the no 4 and
the no 84 of the world.
It comes to differences if you look at the career highlights
of both
players. The WTA names the quarterfinal appearence of Basel
in 2001 as Gretas biggest success, but since the community
of Jelena-Dokic.com is rather going for "big wins" of
players, i would rather call her win over Mary Pierce at
round one of San Diego a few weeks ago as her
career-highlight. And in the only interview i found from the
1.80 meters tall player, she names that win too. Funny are
Marys excuses, if she lost a match: This time she blamed the
light! Unfortunately Greta lost in the next round of San
Diego to Anne Kremer, lost at the qualification for
Stanford, and lost at round 1 of Los Angeles to Marissa
Irvin, so she doesnt really have much match expirience at
hard court, this year.
Her Grand Slam appearences where slightly better in 2002.
She reached round two of Wimbledon (lost to Myskina) and
round two Down Under (lost to Hingis). The US-Open 2000 and
2001 showed the same result in both years for the hungarian
born player. She went through the qualification matches,
only to loose in round one, and beside that she did not have
to qualify this year, i fear the result will stay the same
in 2002.
Jelena played Greta only once. That match took place at
Wimbledon in 2000 and Jelena won 6-1 and 7-5.
Greta Arn was born in Budapest / Hungary but moved to
Germany as a child, and stayed there, even though her
parents moved back a few years ago. She likes wakeboarding
in her free-time, claimes the top 20 as her career-goal and
has a very nice manageress named Heidi Bollich, who was a
great help to me, as i was writing that article.
