If you think Jelena Dokic has had a bad year in 2003 you must not know to
much about her second round opponent at Tokyo, Janette Husarova.
Janette, one of the nicest girls on the WTA-Tour, had her final breakthrough
in 2002 at the tender age of 27, reaching the fourth round of the Australian
Open, the Semis of Doha, the Quarterfinals of Sarasota, Acapulco and Hobart,
und the third rounds of as famous tournaments as the French Open, Amelia
Island or Indian Wells.
All that lead righthanded player to position no 33 at the end of 2002 and i have not even mentioned her win over A. Sanchez-Vicario in the Fed-Cup Finals or her third round loss to Jelena at L.A. where she had to retire after being down 4-0, the only meeting of those girls, ever. So Janette had probably big expectations in 2003 and after reaching round 2 of Sydney and the Australian Open she even made it to the Quarterfinal of Paris where she lost to Serena Williams and gathered 61 points, and was only stopped by Natalie Dechy at Antwerp. That was at the end of february and those 88 points she gained in the europe-indoor season are now nearly 50% worth on her account!!!!!! After that, the 1.69 meters tall girl played just terrible! First round losses at all Grand Slams and no other positive results :-( Handicaped through a back injury she headed from one tournament to the next one, only to earn disappointements and to loose all respect on court she earned only a year ago.... Her season was finally topped by a loss at the first qualification round at Moscow to a russian wild-card player named Anna Tchakevatdze or something, who is ranked below 300 in the world! Now Janette accepted what her coach Raul Ranzinger, who is one of the best friends of Borna Bikic (Jelenas Coach) told her many times before: Stop the season, take a break, cure your injuries, get your brain together and prepare for 2004. I dont know why, but something did not work out properly the last few months for the girl from Bratislava. 2004 started like 2003 ended! She lost the first qualification round at Gold Coast and her attemts to qualify for the Australian Open were stopped by the no230 of the world, a Canadian girl named Pelletier, and Janette dropped to position no 166 of the world :-( It will be hard work for Raul Ranzinger to bring the girl, who has the cutest smile off-court, back to the top50, as Janette is now only the no7 of Slovakia, behind as famous or well known players as Hantuchova, Sucha or Nagyova, but also behind some girls i have never heared about like Fislova or Kurajcova. Good luck Raul and Janette ( but not today ) ;-) |
