Swisscom Open - Zurich, Switzerland
Jelena Dokic def. Kim Clijsters 1-6 6-3 and 6-4 :-)
As Jelena Dokic opened the match vs. the number 1 of the
world with an unforced error from the baseline she
looked kind of annoyed about herself towards her coach
Borna Bikic, and I feared we werent going to see the
same Jelena as yesterday, but Mrs. Dokic profed me wrong
one more time.
She was then up 30-15 on Kims serve because of two great
winners, but Kim managed to hold for 1-0. Jelena started
serving with a double fault and a pretty poor second
serve which meant 0-30 and shortly after that, break for
Clijsters.
Kim hold savely for a 3-0 lead after only 6 minutes and
even had another 2 breakpoints at Jelenas next service
game, but Jelena scored 4 straight points to announce
herself to the scoreboard.
After that Clijsters hold not really save but she hold.
Jelena had two face two break points again and a lucky
net drop off gave Kim a 5-1 lead which she built up to
6-1 after only 17 minutes of great tennis of actually
both players, as it was mostly Dokic who scored the
spectacular points, and always showed her abilties.
Set 2 started with the slight advantage for Jelena to
serve with new balls and for the first time today she
hold safe! Both girls then had big problems to hold, but
whilst Jelena caused the troubles mainly herself by
hitting an amazing amount of double faults, Kims
problems were caused be just brilliant returns of
Jelena. And already at Kims second service game in this
set Jelena broke the number 1 at 15 for a 3-1 lead and
serving.
Both girls hold very safe next and it was Mrs. Dokic who
struggled at her serve again, being up 4-2. She served
two double faults, needed 6 deuces and scored numerous
great points here, followed by as many unforced errors
of course, and finally hold for 5-2.
Then Kim hold savely and Jelena was serving for set2.
second serve - winner dokic 15-0
ace nr. 4 30-0
first serve in - winner dokic 40-0
service winner nr. 1000 Set Dokic!
Now Clijsters started serving with new balls and hold as
save as Jelena in set 2. But Jelena was on fire now. She
hold by hitting 4 winners and Kim showed first signs of
a slight frustration. Clijsters still hold at 30 next
but both points for Dokic were winners of the
yougoslavian again, and it was just pure fun to watch
her.
Whatever Kim tried to do now, it just didnt work out for
the belgian. Jelena scored winners from the net, winners
from the baseline and winners from in-field. On top of
that Kim got nervous now and also had some unforced
errors. Jelena was dominating Kim like never before and
first levelled the score for 2 all and then broke Kim
for a 3-2 lead! She left her opponent absolutely
clueless again when serving for 4-2 and Clijsters needed
both luck and the help of the referee to hold for 4-3.
Absolutely unnecessaryly, Jelena now got into troubles
at her service game but scored two aces at crucial
moments to capture a 5-3 lead and to have the
possibility to serve for the Match after Kim hold at 30.
Jelena serving for the match:
service winner 15-0
second serve - unf. error Dokic 15-15
second serve - winner Dokic 30-15
first serve in - winner Dokic 40-15
first serve in - kim returns - jelena hits the corner of
Kims backhand site - Kims return on that shot is wide
GAME SET AND MATCH MRS. DOKIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MRS.
DOKIC WINS 1-6, 6-3 AND 6-4 :-)
Congratualtions Jelena, that was brilliant!v And "thank
you" Borna, for making this possible.
