Jelena Dokic def. Patty Schnyder 6-0 and 6-3
"It will be very tough to beat Patty on this surface" -
thats what Kim Clijsters said, after she watched
Schnyders 6-2 6-2 win against Amelie Mauresmo. And Kim
certainly expected a semifinal against the swissgirl,
and commented rather her chances as the chances of
Jelena Dokic at the quarterfinal.....
But Jelena Dokic showed the number 1 of the world,
showed Amelie Mauresmo, showed a sell out ground and
showed to millions of viewers on Eurosport how Patty
Schnyder can be not only beaten on this surface. She
actually showed how she can get ripped into pieces!
The first point of the match was for the girl from
Basel, but only 18 minutes later Jelena had won the
first set 6-0, only allowing her opponent 9 more points
in that set! After 7 minutes Jelena was up 3-0, and had
an opponent who did not really know whats going on,
after she could only score 2 single points in the
opening three games. Jelenas game was just terrific! She
hit winner after winner, she put pressure on Patty who
spent most of the match 2 yards behind the baseline, and
today even her return game was simply brilliant!
Patty Schnyder, who basically "served" Amelie Mauresmo
from court yesterday, scored 15% of the points on her
own first serve until she was down 4-0! On the other
site Jelena took every risk on both serves, won amazing
91% of all points she had to use her second serve and
didnt hit one single double fault in the first set!
Even the commentarys on Eurosport didnt find one point
where they could put critics on Jelenas game. Her first
set was just: PERFECT!
And set 2 started like set 1. Jelena hold, broke, hold
and was up 6-0 and 3-0 after 28 minutes! From then on
Jelena slowed a little bit down and allowed the girl
from Basel announced herself to the scoreboard but never
got into the slightest troubles on her own serves, and
won savely 6-0 and 6-3.
Jelena was just the "old" Jelena again! She did not hit
the balls more or less unmotivated across or rather into
the net, she rather "moved" into every ball, creating
this unbelievable power her fans like to see so much,
and her opponents used to fear. She hit the corners like
she had never lost a match in the past year and her
unforced errors werent attempts to play save anymore,
but rather misshits as she tried to go for winners.
Remarkable like her performance on court was also
Jelenas word she said to Patty after the match as she
went to shake hands after only 48 minutes: "Sorry"
