IAt the second round of the tournamet
at Leipzig, Jelena will face a player she has already
played against at the age of 14: Kim Clijsters
There is hardly any girl on the tour Jelena knows better
and likes more as Kim Clijsters. Especially off court.
Together they won the title of the French Open juniors
(picture) and another junior doubles tournament which is
called Torneo Int`l Giovahlic Citta Di Prato, which
sounds italian to me, but i have never heard about that
toury, before. They also won the doubles title of Los
Angeles last year!
But the two "Fila girls" do not only know eachother from
playing with eachother. They have also played against
eachother several times. Jelena leads Kim at junior
matches 3-1, a record what Kim will never be able to
change (he he), and Kim leads Jelena 5-1 in matches
played in the last three years, since both turned 18
(Jelena is a few weeks older as Kim). Unforgettable will
probably always be their semi-final of Hamburg in 2002
where the Belgium won over Jelena Dokic, who first
fought herself back into the match after loosing the
first set, and captured a 4-1 lead in set 2 as her leg
problems started. Jelena couldn`t hardly move anymore,
tried to hit only aces and return-winners from then on,
and still kept playing though the therapist had already
told her to stop. Jelena was finally crying her
beautiful eyes out, as she had to retire at 4-4 in set
two, but got the biggest applause of the audience i have
ever heared when she left the court, accompanied by her
friend Kimmy.
Both
players stormed into the top of the world as teenagers,
Jelena always one step ahead of the belgium waffle, like
Kim is called, and it seemed that nothing could stop
their run to the no.1 of the world. But whilst Jelena
finally got stopped when being no.4 by not being able to
handle her difficult private situation anymore, and
dropped to position 26 now, Kim managed to reach their
biggest goal of their lifes: Becoming number 1 of the
tennis world!
To do so she has won 6 tournaments only this year and
reached the amazing ammount of 13 finals! And two of
those were Grand Slams!
But the match is not lost for Jelena before it even
started, because at 5 of their 6 meetings as WTA-players
the lower ranked player won the match, and Jelena was
down 5-1 to Conchita Martinez also, but was able to win
the next 4 matches against her! And finally it will be
Kims first match on surpreme-court for more than 6
months, as she had a first round bye, whilst Jelena has
already won her opening match vs. Kostanic.
Ok, maybe that was not really convincing everybody, but
at least i show some hope, and Jelena should do the
same! Jelena will have a huge advantage compared to
every other girl on the tour who has to play Kim
Clijsters. Jelena will not play the number one! Jelena
will play her friend Kimmy! She can go out, enjoy
herself, hit some of her unbelievable winners, and .....
well, lets see what happens :-)
