Jelena Match Report - by Pierre

Dokic def. Emmanuelle Gagliardi 6-4 and 6-2
On grandstand, Jelena Dokic was scheduled
to meet Emanuelle Gagliardi which
turned to be a very good match. I was looking forward to
making my own
assessment about what is going wrong with Jelena. Well
both players come on
court, Jelena looked great and after warming up they
started and to my
surprise, Jelena came in firing from everywhere, hitting
with tremendous
depth and accuracy and while Gagliardi was getting
pretty much everything
back, I was convinced that it would not be the case for
the entire hour. And
while Jelena did not really have letdowns, she saw her
opponent give her
some more easy points as the match went on thus helping
her advance thanks
to a convicing win. I was impressed with almost
everything from the match,
probably the best quality of tennis I had seen so far.
But one thing I have
to say is that in my opinion Jelena was giving away too
many easy points.
When she goes for such shots, of course she will make
some unforced errors,
something I don't mind at all. But double-faults and
returns at critical
moments that are not even returned in the court are not
acceptable. Had
Gagliardi been a bit more opportunistic, that first set
could have been very
different.. So let's hope that Jelena can continue to
play inspired tennis
and improve on those given points for her second round
match!
