Jelena Dokic and her doubles
partner Nadia Petrova had an interesting first round match
of the Paris tournament. As you may know, they went on
court to play against Conchita Martinez Granados and Maria
Jose Martinez of Spain, and for sure they proved why they
are No.8 team in doubles so far in the world.
Today, their opponents will be a bit different players.
Especially in their stile of play and their enthusiasm, as
they are both very young and promising tennis players.
On the other side of the court, they will have Marion
Bartoli of France for their opponent. An rising tennis
player, with career-high in doubles (as of May 26, 2003):
No. 68, and being once finalist this year in Paris where
she was teamed up with Cohen Aloro of France, and once
semifinalist in Scottsdale, again with Cohen Aloro,
earlier this year. And the other opponent is Switzerland'
Myriam Casanova, another teen sensation, a girl that is
not playing her best tennis at the moment, but a player
that will for sure be an important figure in tennis
stories in near future. With her career- high in doubles
(as of May 18, 2003): No. 159 (April 7-13, 2003), and
being 3 times quarterfinalist, 2003 - Sydney
(w/Dominikovic); 2002 - Filderstadt (w/Myskina) and Zurich
(w/Gagliardi), and also playing for Swiss Fed Cup Team
last 3 years, it's definitely worth of saying that Myriam,
as Marion are players to be watched in near future, in
both singles and doubles.
If
you look at Marion and Myriam, their names for sure put
together in the same sentence just seem to roll off the
tongue. With their enthusiasm, willing to learn and still
wanting to achieve so more, they for sure can make some
moments in this match. If Marion and Myriam want to take
maximum from this match, then they will have to mix it up,
but to mix it as never before, to try to disturb Jelena
and Nadia's powerful shots, and to find some momentum that
they can rely on.
What Jelena and Nadia should do first, is not to be
destructed by many French fans that will for sure stand on
Marion's side, and one of good tricks to be done during
the match is to look at where Marion stands when she is
waiting to return service. It's just too close to the
service line, which gives her less time to react, and with
playing two-handed backhand and forehand, she should be
forced to move a lot during the match, and especially
Myriam, whose fitness is at a very low level.
My Pick: Jelena and Nadia must not worry about the
significance of the French Open. If they play within
themselves, the match goes to them in 2 maybe 3 sets. I
say 6-4, 6-4.
