After yesterday's shocking defeat to Belgian's Kim Clijsters, Jelena will have her chance to make things a little bit better buy playing a doubles match with her doubles partner Russian's Nadia Petrova later today in Miami.
Their opponents are two Italian players, Silvia Farina- Elia and Tathiana Garbin. These two, playing for an important number of years for their national Fed team are an interesting doubles player indeed. This is the second tournament this year where you can see Silvia and Tathiana playing together, and so far it wasn't that good run for them at all.
One of the reasons can be Tathiana's injury from February this year where she injured her shoulder, so for her it is very important to get some matches under her belt, and to continue where she stopped few months ago.

Currently at No.60 in Doubles Chase Ranking, with only one tournament under their belts, with Career-High Doubles (as of Nov. 17, 2002): No. 24 (June 21-July 4, 1999) for Silvia Farina- Elia, and Career-High Doubles (as of Nov. 17, 2002): No. 25 (Aug. 27-Sept. 9, 2001) for Tathiana Garbin and with their Doubles history

Silvia Farina- Elia: Winner (8): 2001 - Strasbourg (w/Tulyaganova); 2000 - Palermo (w/Grande); 1999 - Auckland (w/Schett), ’s-Hertogenbosch (w/Grande), Portschach (w/Habsudova); 1998 - Prague (w/Habsudova); 1997 - Palermo (w/Schett); 1995 - Maria Lankowitz (w/Temesvari). Finalist (5): 2000 - Hannover (w/Habsudova); 1997 - Gold Coast (w/Dragomir); 1996 - Moscow (w/Schett); 1993 - Palermo (w/B. Schultz); 1990 - Taranto (w/Grande).

Tathiana Garbin: Winner (7): Canberra (w/Loit); 2002 - Hobart (w/Grande), Bol (w/Widjaja); 2001 - Bogota (w/Husarova), Budapest (w/Husarova), Palermo (w/Husarova); 2000 - Warsaw (w/Husarova). Finalist (2): 2002 - Brussels (w/Sanchez-Vicario), New Haven (w/Husarova). Semifinalist (8): 2002 - Paris (w/Schiavone), Dubai (w/Grande); 2001 - Estoril (w/Husarova), Hamburg (w/Husarova); 2000 - Bogota (w/Canepa), Palermo (w/Husarova), Tokyo [Princess Cup] (w/Husarova); 1999 - Bogota (w/Canepa).

you can get a picture that they can play some good matches, but then that wasn't the case in last few matches.
Silvia and Tathiana seems like a good combination on the court. They are players of feel and touch. They need to play few more matches to get that feeling, so the question is, did they have enough of matches this season? They have their weapons, but the question is can they use it and how often? Can they fight against pressure that Jelena and Nadia will apply with every new shot? Silvia and Tathiana have no powerful shots, but they can play some great angles, they run a lot from one part of the court to another, they can mix it up, and they can change their service game strategy which is very important.
What can be problem to them is, can they keep momentum going if they start winning, and how to make it happen?
The only thing that looks good for them is to play on their best card, and that is to run for every ball, to mix it up as much as possible, to pray Jelena and Nadia will have a bad day, and to just go out there and try to play one more shot.
Jelena and Nadia should have enough firepower to outstroke Silvia and Tathiana. Jelena and Nadia are not great runners, but they have shown themselves to be a better big match players, and that matters. Silvia and Tathiana cannot match their power, so they'll have to go all out when they can with their solid shots and also change the pace of the rallies.
To conclude: Jelena and Nadia have too much firepower and will control play, keeping Silvia and Tathiana on the run at all times. While Silvia and Tathiana upset wouldn't be shocking, take Jelena and Nadia in two sets.
I pick: Jelena and Nadia takes full advantage of their power, winning 6-3, 6-3.

The Schedule ( local time ):

Court 2 - 12 noon
1. Kohlmann/Schuettler vs Federer/Mirnyi
2. Dokic/Petrova vs Farina Elia/Garbin
