Graceful Dokic and Petrova

No matter how bad Jelena is playing in singles at the moment, she definitely knows how to play doubles, she definitely knows how to bring some smile into her fans lives. Jelena Dokic and Nadia Petrova, continued their march toward the finals, defeating Henrieta Nagyova ( SVK) and Jelena Kostanic ( CRO) in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6.

Today's opponent, a semi- known doubles team, had some important results in the past. Playing together for some time, Henrieta and Jelena won their first and for now last doubles title in Warsaw last year. The match started off with some competitive play from both sides of the court, certainly something that the score didn't show. Very soon, Jelena and Nadia came to an early lead, and from that point, they never looked back. And why would they? At some point of the match, as the match started to become a nightmare for Nagyova and Kostanic, Nagyova tried to use her strong serve and speedy footwork to pick apart Dokic, yet true to form, the Yugoslav, with many aces up her sleeve, forced Nagyova and Kostanic to make many errors. Serving upwards of 90-mph, Dokic and Petrova tore through their groundstrokes like an unexpected hurricane. They let only one game slip by before closing in on a first set win.
But that was not what Henrieta and Jelena wanted to see. They just refused to take a bow, to leave the court with no fight. They seemed to re-energize during the changeover, and started rifling groundstrokes at Dokic and Petrova. To say that Nadia hugged the net would be an understatement. The Russian born girl pounced on Henrieta and Jelena's service returns with cat-like quickness. When the crucial tie-break came along, it was Dokic who kicked it up a notch, scoring her and her partner match points as opposed to Henrieta and Jelena's bad game plan when it mattered most. Dokic and Petrova finally peaked in the thirteenth game, putting an end to the second set and the match with near-perfect serving. Dokic and Petrova would take the second set, 7-6 ( 4). Jelena Dokic and Nadia Petrova defeated Henrieta Nagyova and Jelena Kostanic 6-1, 7-6.
