One of the most unknown players inside the top 20 of the WTA is probably Eleni Daniilidou. She was born at the beautiful Greek Island Crete on 19th of September 1982 and reached position 18 last week, which is her carreer-high.

The righthanded player had already a few noteable results as she played Jelena Dokic for the first (and only) time. That happened at Birmingham and Jelena won 6-4, 4-6 and 6-4. But Eleni did learn from that loss! Just a week later she won her first WTA title at Hertogenbosch where she beat Mauresmo in straight sets at the quarterfinal, Justine Henin in three sets at the semis and Elena Dementieva also in three at the final!

Further the greek no1 reached the 4th round of Wimbledon, the quarterfinals of L.A., beating Hantuchova and Kremer there, and the final of Bahia, where she beat Schnyder and defending Champion Monica Seles. All that happened in 2002.

Just a few weeks ago, Eleni captured her second WTA title at Auckland. She had already been no 2 seed and did not really have to beat any top players, though, as top seed Anna Pistolesi lost her quarterfinal and Anne Kremer and Tatiana Panova, the 3rd and 4th seeds, lost even earlier. Nevertheless, Eleni is one out of 7 players who already won a title in 2003, and she lines up with names such as Serena Williams, Lindsay Davenport and Kim Clijsters.

Her latest tournament she played was the Australian Open where she beat Natalie Dechy and only lost to Serena Williams at the fourth round.

Eleni is a remarkable player, with an enormous talent. She has beaten Fortez and Stevenson in straight sets to advance to the Quarterfinal of Paris, and though the list of the players she beat gets longer every week, Jelena should not be on that list very soon, if she shows more passion as yesterday. And she usually does as it matters!

The match will start at about 3pm local time, which is:

6am Los Angeles
9am New York
2pm London
3pm Belgrade
and alredy saturday
1am Melbourne
