2nd ROUND
MATCH REPORT
88.67% of
the fan-community at the famous website of Jelena Dokic
voted for a win of their hero in straight sets. And Mrs.
Dokic proved them right!
Jelena, who
is known as a slow starter in the meanwhile, struggled, as
usual, at her first service game, and had to save 5
breakpoints to take a 1-0 lead over french girl Emilie Loit,
who was fantastically supported by the french crowd, and
sometimes even from the french linesman.
And Emilie
did not waste time to think about that chances she had. She
hold for 1-1 and went on at her attempts, to break Jelena
again. She had another break point, but could not convert it
either and so the girls took their first rest with Jelena
leading 2-1.
Then Emilie
had problems at her service, and Jelena showed up the
difference between the no10 and the no 54 of the world. She
only needed one break-chance for a break. 3-1 Dokic.
But Loit
fought back, and scored 8 (actually 9) points in a row for 3
all.
Jelena got
herself together and hold her serve from now on, and without
really being better as her opponent she broke her at the 8th
game, and took the first with 6-3. She had just been there,
at the crucial moments, and scored when it was most
important
The second
set was not much different. The french no 5 started serving,
got broke at the 3rd game and managed a re-break straight
away. This time it was the 7th game which was decisive.
Jelena broke Emilies serve for the 4th time this evening,
and did not get in troubles at her last two service games.
Jelena did
not show her best tennis. She did what was necessary to beat
Loit. She had the better technic, and a far bigger variety
of shots she could use, but to show that, you have to move
to the ball, and thats what Jelena has not done very often.
She did it,
at crucial moments. At big points. That was all she had to
do, and all she did.
After 80
minutes the umpire announced: Game, Set and Match Mrs.
Dokic. 6-3 and 6-4! |
